The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger About Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Response
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Modifications
Previously, the sizing featured one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
