In the 94th minute, pure elation erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and gifted the stand-in Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane was the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch, making the memory of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old in his dotage.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the City bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with 40 trophies for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, stood a one-time trainer at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had served in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being temporarily promoted from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, headlined by Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed nearly insurmountable.
