Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
Both players swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional victory, took control to force a decider.
He saved four early break points in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
