Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
